Shell Copper Pendant — Piece No. P050

Creamy ivory with honey-colored streaks drifting across its face, this shell was collected on a beach in North Carolina and was begging to be seen. Light slips through the lacy tunnels that were carved by boring sponges.

Step one was a deep clean in hydrogen peroxide, and then came the sun and sea: a fan of tightly coiled copper rays along the top edge, and a hammered copper wave curling across the middle.

Above it all, copper scrolls spiral up into a woven bail, while down at the base a long coil of binding wire gathers the frame that cradles the shell.
